The Science of Imperialism:
Ideological Shaping of Orientalism and ARCHAEOLOGY in the Middle
East
By Kirstyn Smith
Ideologies of imperialism shape behavior, which in turn reinforces those same ideologies. Simply put, the way the powerful view the non-powerful shapes treatment and studies of the non-powerful. These shaped treatments and studies in turn reinforce the original ideologies of the superiority of the powerful. In terms of this presentation, the powerful are the Europeans who exerted both physical and non-physical control over the Middle East, the treatment and studies will be looked at through the sciences of Orientalism and Biblical Archaeology in the Syrio-Palestine area, and the reinforcement of ideologies will be looked at through a case study of the Palestine Exploration Fund and modern news and media.
